This sentence has a strong meaning, emphasizing that everyone should not forget his history, his starting point, how he began to appreciate what he has gained today. The changes that occurred in the past determine how we live today.

Not only remembering the history of the nation, but also history related to our daily lives, one of which is the company's history. Our success today cannot be separated from the struggles of the previous founders, such as Kalbe Consumer Health. Kalbe Consumer Health has explored a long history to build a strong business globally. As one of the Kalbe Group members, Kalbe Consumer Health also feels the need to explain how establishing this pharmaceutical business giant in Indonesia is.

Kalbe Group History

Supported by more than 17,000 employees, Kalbe has now grown to become the largest healthcare provider in Indonesia, with superior expertise in marketing, branding, distribution, finance, and research and development. Kalbe Farma is also the most significant public health product company in Southeast Asia, with a market capitalization of IDR 79.2 trillion and sales of IDR 20.2 trillion at the end of 2017.

Of course, this achievement has gone through several long processes in previous years. Here is the long history of the establishment of the Kalbe Group:

- First Period

The history of Kalbe Group began on September 10, 1966, with the establishment of a company by six brothers in the North Jakarta area. In the first year, Kalbe's scope of work was only centered in the Jakarta area, which was led by Dr. Boenjamin Setiawan and F. Bing Aryanto and supported by four other brothers. Through their persistence and perseverance, in 1971, Kalbe established a new factory in the Pulomas area, East Jakarta. Over time PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk has opened branches in various regions, covering all provinces in Indonesia within ten years.

- Second Period

The next period is 1976-1985, an era of physical development and verification. In 1977, Kalbe Farma became one of the leading forces in the ethical medicine category and competed with 41 multinational companies. For this reason, in 1977, PT Dankos Laboratories was established, which focuses more on the OTC field. In 1985, PT Kalbe Farma Tbk acquired PT Bintang Toedjo, also engaged in the OTC sector, and PT Hexpharm Jaya, most of which are licensees from Japan. In 1981, Kalbe Farma Tbk transferred the distribution business to PT Enseval Megatrading.

- Third Period

The next period was a period of crisis throughout Indonesia, from 1986 to 1998. The problem impacted PT Kalbe Farma Tbk's business because it was not fast enough to find a solution. The management of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk decided to maintain the fields that are believed to bring growth in the next era, such as milk and infant nutrition. Meanwhile, less relevant fields will be partnered with foreign parties. Kalbe Farma Tbk then consolidated the food nutrition business into PT Sanghiang Perkasa.

- Current Period

Through struggle, organic growth, business mergers, and acquisitions, Kalbe has grown and transformed into an integrated healthcare solution provider through 4 divisional groups, namely:

  • Prescription Medicine Division

  • Health Products Division

  • Nutrition Division

  • Distribution and Logistics Division

Kalbe Consumer Health Milestone

After knowing the history of Kalbe Group, now is the time to enter the main discussion, which is to get to know Kalbe Consumer Health more closely by knowing its essential journey. Kalbe Consumer Health's journey is divided into five crucial periods that we cannot forget. These five periods are the foundation of today's success.

The Starting Point

Kalbe Consumer Health was founded in 1956 under the name PT Sumber Sehat. Someone built this company with the dedication of a great man, namely Mr. Sujono Hindarto. In the early stages of its establishment, PT Sumber Sehat only had six employees to run the entire business.

The Metamorphose Stage

In 1960, the management of PT Sumber Sehat decided to change its name, hoping that it would be a better company. This name change was approved under PT Sakafarma Sehat, without omitting the word 'healthy' behind the name. As a company engaged in the pharmaceutical industry, the term health has become the identity and characteristic of the company and supports the progress of public health in Indonesia.

Together as One

On April 24, 1997, PT Sakafarma Sehat was acquired by Dankos Farma. The acquisition process is the transfer of ownership of the company or assets (in the banking industry, this occurs when the purchase of shares is above 50%). This phenomenon caused the name change of PT Saka Farma Sehat to PT Saka Farma Laboratories.

Be a Part of Kalbe Group

Three years later, in 2000, Dankos Farma was acquired by PT Kalbe Farma Tbk. This acquisition process resulted in 100% of PT Saka Farma Laboratories' shares becoming the ownership of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk and automatically becoming part of the Kalbe Group. This had continued until now, more than 21 years ago, when it became part of the Kalbe Group. PT Saka Farma Laboratories entered the Health Products division under Kalbe Consumer Health. PT Saka Farma Laboratories' merger into Kalbe Consumer Health has opened nearly 40 branches throughout Indonesia.

Build a New Home

In 2018 Kalbe Consumer Health built a new factory to produce medicines. The construction of this factory was carried out in Greenland International Industrial Center, with the assistance of several employees who directly supervised the manufacturing process. Kalbe Consumer Health's factory is known as the Deltamas Plant, which has many facilities for its employees and does not forget about healthy factory standards based on directions from BPOM.

Three years running, The Deltamas Plant has innovated with green manufacturing or environmentally friendly factory principles. PT Saka Farma Laboratories or Kalbe Consumer Health has operated in more than 40 branches spread throughout Indonesia and other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Maldives, Ghana, and Nigeria.

Since the Kalbe Group acquired Kalbe Consumer Health, the company's five values, namely Panca Sradha Kalbe, have been used as guidelines for attitude and action for all employees to date. In 2010, Kalbe officially determined the value of Panca Sradha Kalbe, which consists of the following five principles:
